第一組實體: 作品、內容表現、載體表現、單件。

WORK :A distinct intellectual or artistic creation. A work is an abstract entity; there is no single material object one can point to as the work.

作品是一個抽象概念，獨有的知識或創作。

Expression :The second entity defined in the model is expression: the intellectual or artistic realization of a work in the form of alpha-numeric, musical, or choreographic notation, sound, image, object, movement, etc., or any combination of such forms.

以字母-數字、音樂、或舞蹈標記、聲音、圖像、實物、運動等形式，或者這些形式的任何組合所表達的一部作品的知識或藝術表現。

Manifestation :The physical embodiment of an expression of a work.

一部作品的內容表達的物理體現。

Item :A single exemplar of a manifestation.

一種載體表現的樣本。

第二組實體: 個體、團體。

Person:An individual. The entity defined as person encompasses individuals that are deceased as well as those that are living.

一個個體的人。

Corporate Body :Corporate Body  is an organization or group of individuals and/or organizations acting as a unit.

第一個目的：提供一個清晰定義的結構化框架，使書目記錄中記錄的資料 與記錄使用者的需求之間產生關聯。

第二個目的是：推薦由國家書目機構創建的記錄的基本功能級別。

RDA = RESOURCE DESCRIPTION AND ACCESS

[資源]讀者用RDA做出來的data 可以做下列四種事情：

1.   Find─to find resources that correspond to the user’s stated search criteria

2.   Identify─to comfirm that the resource described corresponds to the resource sought, or to distinguish between two or more resources with similar characteristic

3.   Select─to select a resource that is appropriate to the user’s needs

4.   Obtain─to acquire or access the resource described.

[實體]書目紀錄應有的功能：

1.   Find─to find information on that and on resources associated with the entity

2.   Identify─to confirm that the entity described corresponds to the entity sought, or to distinguish between two or more entities with similar names, etc.

3.   Clarify─to clarify the relationship between two or more such entities, or to clarify the relationship between the entity described and a name by which that entity or known

4.   Understand─to understand why a particular name or title or form of name or title, has been chosen as the preferred name or title for the entity.

RDA provide a comprehensive set of guidelines and instuctions covering all types of content and media.

The data should enable the user to:

1.find  resources that correspond to the user's stated search criteria

磁帶格式
磁帶格式就是俗稱 2709 格式，為純文字檔。ISO 2709 指的是一份國際標準規範在資訊及文獻領域裡, 以磁帶交換書目資訊時, 應該遵守的登錄格式, 以便為各系統所接受。

顯示符號	實際符號	說明
%	ISO 646符號集的 IS3, 十六進位值為 1D	記錄終止符號
#	ISO 646符號集的 IS2, 十六進位值為 1E	欄位終止符號

ISO 2709 的格式裡, 依其性質, 每筆書目記錄的內容, 可以分為四個部份, 依序是:

1.  記錄標示, 最前面的24個位元組。

2.  指引, 每個指引以12個位元組構成, 可以有無數個指引。

3.  書目資料欄

4.  記錄終止符號

記錄標示

每個記錄最前面的24位元組是記錄標示, 它的長度是固定的, 每個位元組都有特定的意義
